Islamabad: Pakistan today said it wanted to "de-escalate and defuse" tensions with India that had arisen in wake of the Mumbai terror strikes and made it clear that New Delhi has not blamed Islamabad government for the attacks.
"We don t want to do anything that will exacerbate the situation. We want to de-escalate and defuse the situation and we don t to make statements that will make this delicate situation spin out of control," Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting of political parties chaired by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Qureshi said India had not levelled any accusations against the government of Pakistan, the country or any institution in connection with the attacks.
"Their (India s) stance is that there are elements who could have used our territory (for the attacks)," he said.
Indicating that the attacks could have been carried out by forces that wanted to create hurdles in the composite dialogue process, Qureshi said Pakistan is ready to fully cooperate with India in probing the terrorist strikes.
"Our approach is constructive and cooperative. If you have evidence, we will cooperate so that we can get to the bottom of the matter," he said.
Pakistan responded yesterday to a demarche handed over by the Indian government on November 29,he said. The government is examining a second demarche handed over by India yesterday and would reply to it after consultations, he added.
