New Delhi: With the country witnessing more terror attacks in recent periods, IGNOU will start courses on better security practises in hotels and small-scale industries and train people to handle sniffer dogs at their houses.
The university is launching a course for rural youths to train them in security operations. Besides, another course will be launched to train public to handle sniffer dogs.
"These courses will be immense importance in the present context. About 21,000 rural youths from 12 states will be trained on security operations," C G Naidu, Director of School of Vocational Education and Training, IGNOU, said.
At present, small hotels and industrial units are hiring security personnel from private agencies who are often not much trained in handling security issues, he said.
It will be short-term course in which the youths will be trained on handling security gadgets, keeping surveillance and responding to exigencies.
IGNOU will collaborate with the Security Services Council of India (SSCI) for the purpose. The SSCI, which has a training centre in Dheradun, will impart the skill development while IGNOU will design the course and take care of the academic aspects.
The Ministry of Rural Development will provide funds for running the programme. The training will be started from February next year, he said.
The varsity will also launch a course on Dog Management aimed at training people to properly handle sniffer dogs in guarding and later using for investigation.
