Political quake rocks Latur
Thursday, December 04, 2008 00:20 [IST]

Latur: Fifteen years ago, Latur in Marathwada region was rocked by a killer quake which claimed thousands of lives. Now it it is feeling tremors of a different kind with two of its most famous personalities being forced to quit in wake of Mumbai terror attacks.

The exit of Shivraj Patil from Union Home Ministry last week and that Vilasrao Deshmukh as Chief Minister today has left this district town with no leaders it can now boast of at the State and Central level.

With Congress leadership accepting Deshmukh's resignation offer, his supporters are a disappointed lot, unable to believe how their leader's knack of wriggling out of crisis failed him this time around.

"I am sure, Congress has some good job lined up for him at the Centre. Deshmukh is not one to give up so easily," a local Congress functionary, Baban Patil, said.

Congress cannot afford to ignore a leader of Deshmukh's calibre, he said.
