Ex-CM's wife Shalinitai Patil floats new party
Thursday, December 04, 2008 01:13 [IST]

Aurangabad: Reservation should not be given to anybody on the basis of caste, but should be given to the economically backward classes, said Shalinitai Patil, wife of former Maharashtra chief minister Vasantdada Patil, while floating a new political party Kranti Sena .

Addressing a massive rally, she further said the poor people in the country need government's help and they should not be deprived of such help.

"If we help people who are economically backward, the caste system in our country will also come to an end," she said.

She said, "it is due to the caste-based reservation system that the quality is going down and this may create hindrance in the development of our country."

Her late husband Vasantdada Patil was the chief minister of Maharashtra from 1977 to 1978 and again from 1983 to 1985. The Congress leader had also served as governor of Rajasthan.
