New Delhi: The CBI has arrested a garrison engineer from Visakhapatnam for demanding and accepting bribe from a contractor, who was executing projects at a Naval Base.
The contractor working with the office of Director General, Naval Projects, was executing the construction work of temporary fencing at the Alternative Operating Base project at Rambilli. He was recently awarded the work of providing security services for the same project.
Accused R K Vazirani, garrison engineer at the base, issued a work order amounting to Rs 15 lakh to the contractor and in return demanded 10 per cent cut which is about Rs 1.5 lakh from him.
Earlier, the contractor had complained to the CBI alleging that Vazirani wanted bribe in lieu of the work order. The investigating agency laid a trap and while the accused was accepting the money from contractor, he was nabbed red-handed.
Subsequent searches of the official and residential premise of the accused in Visakhapatnam resulted in the recovery of cash to the tune of Rs five lakhs, NSC and FD certificates worth Rs 1 lakh, work order file concerned and other documents. Searches were also conducted on the Mumbai residence of the accused. Source : PTI
