CBI asked to look into prez bro case
Friday, December 05, 2008 03:34 [IST]
Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Thursday directed the CBI to look into "certain areas" of the investigation into the murder of Jalgaon Congress leader Vishram Patil and to file a report by January 12.

Vishrams wife Rajni Patil had moved the high court last year alleging that GN Patil, brother of president Pratibha Patil, had conspired to kill her husband on September 21,2005,because of political rivalry. Rajni had asked the court to order a CBI probe alleging that the state police was shielding GN Patil.

In a detailed affidavit filed in November, the CBI gave a clean chit to GN Patil saying it found no evidence to support the allegations made by the slain leaders wife. It has filed a chargesheet against Raju Mali, Raju Sonawane, Damodar Lokhande and Leeladhar Narkhede.

But the high court on Thursday said it was not satisfied on two aspects. One was the alleged phone conversations between GN Patil and his associate Ulhas Patil a day before the murder and on the day of the murder. Secondly, the allegations of misuse of tsunami relief fund by GN Patil, which Vishram Patil had ordered an inquiry into.
