Friday, December 05, 2008 07:17 [IST]

Lucknow: The Congress today held a meeting of its party workers here with an eye on the coming Lok Sabha polls scheduled to be held early next year.

Party office bearers from 27 Lok Sabha constituencies attended the meeting in which Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi and party General Secretary and in charge of state affairs Digvijay Singh also participated.

Addressing the party workers here, Singh said, "UPCC will be organising three Sampradayik Sadbhavna Mahasammelan in the state. These will be held in Lucknow, Azamgarh and Meerut."

The Congress General Secretary also said, "Now that the elections in MP and Rajasthan are over. I can focus more on UP."

Later speaking to reporters about seat-sharing with Samajwadi Party for the coming Lok Sabha polls in UP, Singh said, "We have no problems except on 7-8 seats."

Highly placed sources in the Congress told PTI that "Congress is likely to field 30-32 candidates in Uttar Pradesh during the coming Lok Sabha polls."

The former MP Chief Minister also accused the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state and rampant corruption.
