New Delhi: In the wake of recent terror attack in Mumbai and in efforts to give more teeth to security forces to thwart infiltration of terrorists into the city, Delhi police have stepped up security along the borders by installing Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at the 27 border posts.
A state-of-the-art hi-tech control room to monitor the feed received from these cameras will be made operational at the Delhi Police headquarters.
The move came after terrorists struck country s financial capital and killed more than 180 people, a senior Delhi police official said.
"We are putting up CCTV cameras at our 27 border checkposts. This will help us in keeping a record of vehicular movement and to check anti-social elements," Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat told PTI. He, however, said the number of CCTVs to be installed have not been fixed as of yet.
The border areas, where cameras would be mounted, include -- Kapashera, Samalkha, Mahipalpur, Sindhu, Tikri, Ghaziabad, Badarpur and Palla village.
"Terrorists are exploring different means and modes to sneak into our country. That is why we decided to further security at all vulnerable locations including entry points from bordering neighbouring states," Bhagat said.
The department is already negotiating with firms and completing official formalities. "We are considering financial and technical feasibility of the project now. It will start operation within two to three months time," he said.
The cameras would have the facility of rotating at any angle and their zoom power would be high so that they would not only be able to pinpoint vehicles trying to move out but also identify their occupants. During night, these cameras would use infrared technology, an another official said.
