Friday, December 05, 2008 15:52 [IST]

Lucknow: A criminal, wanted by the police of as many as five states, was nabbed along with his two aides in Uttar Pradesh Friday, police said.

"Wanted in nearly 48 criminal cases, including murder, abduction and loot, Altaf alias Salim was arrested Friday morning in Mathura," district police chief A. Satish Ganesh told IANS by telephone.

He said the police raided an eating joint in Bhagwannagar locality of Mathura, some 300 km from here, and nabbed Salim along with his two aides.

Besides UP, Salim was wanted by the police of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Uttarakhand.

"About Salim's arrest, we have informed the police of other states. Salim's criminal cases lodged in various districts of Uttar Pradesh are also being screened," police inspector Rajneesh Tiwari said.
