Burdwan: Jougram Gram Panchayat secretary and Co-ordination Committee member Ashok Banerjee was stabbed by miscreants on the Durgapur Express highway, Police said today.
Banerjee (40) was returning to Jougram from Burdwan last night with two other companions when a vehicle chased his motorcycle, overtook it and forced him to stop, police said.
The miscreants alighted from the vehicle and beat up Banerjee and his companions, police said.
Banerjee was also stabbed in the abdomen and admitted to Burdwan medical college Hospital in a serious condition.
The miscreants fled when Banerjee's companions raised a hue and cry drawing the attention of bystanders.
