Mumbai: Maharashtra Friday got a new chief minister in the low profile Ashok Shankarrao Chavan, son of veteran Congress leader and two time chief minister the late Shankarrao Chavan - the first father-son duo to hold the top political post in the state.

Ashok Chavan, as he is more popularly known, was minister for cultural affairs, industries, mines and protocol in the Vilasrao Deshmukh government. The 50-year-old management graduate has been representing the Mudkhed constituency in Nanded district in the assembly since 1999.

Shankarrao Chavan was chief minister for the first time from 1975 to 1977 and his second term was from 1986 to 1988.
