Did 2 terrorists escape via Ghodbunder Road?
Saturday, December 06, 2008 05:02 [IST]

Mumbai: Did two terrorists manage to escape via Thane and Borivili when commandos were neutralising 10 others during last weeks terror siege?

An autorickshaw driver in Thane has told the police that he dropped two youths in their early 20s, looking terrified and carrying two huge sacks, at Kapurbavdi in Thane on November 28. They got into his vehicle at Mulund checknaka around 10.30 pm and asked him to take them to a place from where they could catch a bus to Borivili, Sunil Bhavani Singh told the police.

"All through the journey from Mulund checknaka to Kapurbavdi, the youths were visibly terrified and were talking in hushed tone," Singh said.

When they got down at the Kapurbavdi bus stop, one of them made a call from his cellphone and informed someone at the other end that they had reached the bus stop and would reach Borivili soon, Singh said. The Ghodbunder Road connects Kapurbavdi to Borivili. He said their movements and abnormally large luggage made him suspicious about them.

Immediately after dropping the two at the bus stop, he informed the Kapurbavdi police about the two youths. A police team rushed to the bus stop but could not find them.
"Given the seriousness of the matter in the backdrop of terror attack in Mumbai, we immediately called Sunil Singh to the police station to get more information about the duo," deputy commissioner of police Bhujangrao Shinde said.

The police have prepared sketches of the two youths based on the descriptions given by Singh. "The sketches have been sent to the Borivili police station and also to the Anti-Terrorism Squad, Mumbai," Shinde said.
