Unesco project to train teachers in China
Saturday, December 06, 2008 14:25 [IST]

Beijing: The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (Unesco) will start a special programme in China to train graduates volunteers to teach in schools in the country' backward rural areas.

The "Teach For China" project is expected to begin in February next year with the start of new college semester, programme chief Yu Wei said Saturday.

The programme will be run by the Unesco's International Research and Training Center for Rural Education (Inruled).

The Inruled will enroll the first group of 12 university graduates, who are expected to teach for two years in elementary and high schools in backward rural areas as well as schools for children of migrant workers in cities.

In 2010, the programme will raise the number of trainees to 30.

The Sun Yet Sen Family Foundation of Hong Kong will finance the programme at its initial stage, according to Yu.
