UP hires detectives to trace power defaulters
Saturday, December 06, 2008 21:17 [IST]

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Power Corp Ltd (UPPCL) will rope in private detectives to trace power defaulters across the state, a senior official said Saturday. "As we have failed to locate the power defaulters, who have either sold their houses or shifted to other places, UPPCL has now decided to hire private detectives to trace them," UPPCL managing director Avaneesh Awasthi told IANS.

According to officials, the defaulters in the state owe around Rs.80 billion to UPPCL. Also, there are a number of people who have taken power connections under false identities and now owe huge amounts to the state-run corporation, officials said. "We believe private detectives will help us considerably in realising the dues that have been a major concern for the UPPCL for the last several years," Awasthi said.
