Cuttack: A racket involving fake higher secondary and matriculation certificates was busted today with the arrest of the alleged mastermind.
On a tip off from Gajapati district, police also seized several incriminating documents, some fake certificates and stamps from an NGO operating here.
It is believed that employees of Orissa's Board of Secondary Education (BSE) and Council for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) are also behind this racket.
Since investigations are continuing, the city DCP A N Sinha has refused to divulge anything further.
"Our investigations are purely based on the inputs provided by the superintendent of police, Gajapati. It is apprehended that a systematic racket is operating in this sensitive and unethical practice," Sinha said.
According to reports, the police detected a fake matriculation certificate submitted by a candidate who had taken up a job under the special police recruitment drive in Gajapati district.
Further investigations showed that as many as six other candidates had also procured fake certificates on the basis of which they had got the police jobs.
It was ascertained that the fake certificates were prepared by a Cuttack-based social organisation and each certificate was sold for Rs 10,000.
A police team from Gajapati with the help of city police raided the office of the social organisation and arrested the mastermind Narendra Kumar Moharana.
