I never dreamt of becoming PM: Sheila
Saturday, December 13, 2008 15:53 [IST]
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has said that she had never dreamt of becoming the Prime Minister and for her, being a member of the Union Cabinet was "a little more reachable" goal.

The 71-year-old leader said her entire focus is now on the development of Delhi and the Commonwealth Games 2010 for which several development projects are in progress.

"No, not at the moment. I can't even dream of it. I have never dreamt of it. I don't dream of it... Because Prime Ministers are not made just like that," Dikshit told NDTV when asked whether Prime Ministership was on her radar.

Asked whether she would welcome it if offered by the party, the Chief Minister said, "It would be a canvas which I don t feel at the moment confident enough to be able to paint at all".

On becoming a minister in the union cabinet, she said that would be "a little more reachable" goal and "that is not completely out" but her immediate priority was the 2010 sporting extravaganza.

When further questioned whether she would think of joining the cabinet after the Games, she said, "I would look at it and say I want to get back home to my books, to my music, my family...to the leisure that I have enjoyed. I would like to do that".

Dikshit, who steered Congress to a historic hat-trick in power in Delhi, said she had tears in her eyes when she filed nomination papers for the elections.

"I had tears in my eyes as it was the biggest battle of my life and I don't know whether they were the tears of apprehension, joy or fear. It was an unusual feeling. I am one of those people who don t cry but I did cry," she added.
