Crime Branch sleuths, probing the 26/11 attacks, have found out that the 10 Lashkar-e-Tayiba terrorists had made a stopover at a seashore near Uran in Raigad district before embarking on the final lap to Mumbai. A man was waiting for them at the rendezvous with food and water.
A senior Crime Branch officer said the lone arrested terrorist, Mohammad Ajmal Amir, told them during interrogations that the terrorists had stopped at a place before beginning their final journey to Mumbai. "He could not recollect the name of the place, but said their team leader Ismail Khan knew it well," added the officer.
Police checked the global positioning system (GPS) instrument, recovered from Ismail Khan. "It showed a pre-installed location in the vicinity of Uran. The place was marked with a big red dot, indicating that it was probably a scheduled stop," the officer said.
Ajmal has reportedly told the investigators that the 10 of them had halted at Uran for six to seven hours on November 26."He said that a man was waiting for them at the seashore. Seemingly, he knew Ismail, and provided them with food packets and pouches of water," the officer said. "The terrorists ate and drank, and rested there for a while."
Ajmal also told the sleuths that the dinghy used by the LeT men to enter Mumbai was also given to them by that man in Uran. "Ajmal told us that when they were about to leave, the man gave them an inflatable rubber dinghy. It was put aboard Kuber, and they left for Mumbai," the officer said.
A team of Crime Branch officers are trying to verify the revelations made by Ajmal. "We are crosschecking his version," said the officer.
During interrogations, Ajmal reportedly told the cops that after hijacking MV Kuber, they sailed the international waters up to Raigad, and then entered the Indian waters.
