Kannur: Two persons have been killed when a tipper lorry fell down into a river from a bridge at Kallakandi near here, police said today.
The mishap occurred when the truck was returning to a quarry, after unloading crusher stones at the fishing harbour project site in Thalassery here last night.
As the truck fell down from the narrow bridge local people, police and fireforce personnel rushed to the spot and took out the victims, who got stuck inside the vehicle.
The rescue and search operations went on till late night following information that yet another person was involved in the mishap, police said. The victims, idetified as, truck driver Pradeep (30) and Manoharan (32), hailing from Thrissur, died.
Though they were rushed to a hospital in Thalassery, they were declared brought dead by the hospital authorities. The bodies of the victims were later shifted to the General Hospital in Thalassery.
