Thursday, December 18, 2008 16:34 [IST]

Bangalore: Three persons have been arrested here and a stolen ancient idol belonging to the Chola period recovered from them, a top police official said today.

The idol of Goddess Parvati weighing around 30 kg and made of five metals was estimated to be worth over Rs two crore, Shankar Bidari, Police Commissioner, told PTI today.

The idol was inspected by an Archaeologist based in Mysore who said that the idol appeared to belong to the Chola period.

The statue was stolen from Tamil Nadu and brought to Mysore and later to Bangalore for sale, Bidari said.
