Thiruvananthapuram: Amid reports of dengue fever spreading in some parts of Kerala, the Health Department has strengthened the anti-mosquito mission .
Official sources said there had been no death reported anywhere and the situation was well under control. The state-run healthcare machinery has been geared up to meet the situation, they said. Most cases were reported from the state capital district.
"Though there is no report of massive spread of dengue, many cases have been reported from the coastal areas, and parts of the state capital and suburbs," Dr K. S. Anil Kumar, Additional Director, Public Health, told PTI.
The Department had been collecting fever reports from various areas. As per information received, the coastal belt of Vizhinjam had 11 and villages on the periphery of the state capital like Malayinkil, Karakulam and Vilappil had 10 to 14 confirmed dengue cases, he said.
There were also reports of people getting admitted to hospitals from the southern and coastal areas like Parassala, Pallichal, Veli Puthanthoppu,Poovar, Neyyattinkara and Vattiyurkavu. Even the the areas under Corporation limits were not free from the threat, he said.
As part of the preventive drive, a district-level disease surveillance meeting was held here yesterday. As mosquitos were the vector carrying the dengue virus, fogging, spraying and source reduction campaign would be strengthened, he added.
