HC dismisses contempt petition against Pinarayi
Thursday, December 18, 2008 18:57 [IST]

Kochi: The Kerala High Court today dismised a contempt petition against CPI(M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan.

The petition was filed by Raju Puzhankara alleging that the statement made by the CPI-M leader at the state conference of All India Lawyers Union at Kannur regarding conduct of judges amounted to contempt of court.

A Division Bench, comprising acting Chief Justice J B Koshy and Justice Thomas P Joseph, dismissed the petition saying it was not maintainable.

Vijayan was addressing the conference at Kannur on December 13 where he made a reference to the registration of A criminal case filed against Health Minister P K Sreemathi pursuant to the order of Thiruvananthapuram Magistrate court, which the petitioner stated amounted to contempt.
