New Delhi: BJP Monday announced that the party's national executive meeting will be held in Nagpur in January.
"The BJP will hold its national executive meeting on January 23, 24 and 25 in Nagpur," BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told PTI.
On choosing Nagpur as the venue, Naqvi said, "It is an important town and the assembly elections in Maharashtra are slated soon after the Lok Sabha polls are held in April-May next year".
"The party cadre demanded that this should be the venue for the next meet," Naqvi added.
Nagpur is the headquarters of RSS and this would help the BJP get closer to the Sangh Parivar ahead of the general elections, party sources said.
The Sangh Parivar outfits form the backbone of BJP and provide immense support to it during elections.
Other reasons for choosing Nagpur are its proximity to the Vidharba region which has been in the news for a high number of farmer suicides due to rising debts, the sources said.
The plight of farmers is one of the main issues on which the BJP plans to take on the UPA government during the polls.
High on the agenda for the national executive are fine tuning of the strategy for the coming Lok Sabha polls and discussion of the party manifesto among others. This will be the last national executive of the party before the polls.
