Jaya seeks compensation in vaccine death cases
Tuesday, December 23, 2008 16:52 [IST]

Chennai: AIADMK General Secretary Jayalalithaa today demanded that the Tamil Nadu Government extend financial assistance of Rs five lakh each to the families of six children who died allegedly after administration of polio vaccine.

"The state government's inefficiency in administration and lack of alertness had lead to the death of six children", she alleged in a statement here.

Accusing the DMK Government of not taking any precautionary measures while conducting the pulse polio campaign, she said there were some procedures to be adopted while administering the vaccine.

"This was not the first time such things happened. Already three children had died in Thiruvallur District in April this year soon after they were administered polio drops by the primary health centre staff," she said.
