Chandigarh: Former Army chief General V P Malik today said Pakistan's emergence as the "epicentre of terrorism" is dangerous not just for India but the whole world and called for mounting global pressure on Islamabad to "dismantle the terror network".
"With Pakistan having emerged as the epicentre of terrorism over the years, I think it is the responsibility of the whole world to see terror network in Pak is dismantled," Gen Malik, who was at the helm during the Kargil war, told PTI.
Noting that it was high time nations other than India realised that they too could be targeted by terrorists being trained in Pakistan, he said, "If India is bearing all the brunt today, tomorrow it can be any nation."
However, when asked if a war between India and Pakistan looked imminent at this moment, the retired Army Chief said he did not think so and added a lot of it was just media hype.
Asked what he made out from Indian Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor's visit to Siachen and forward areas of JK today, he said the media is trying to make too much out of it.
On the preparedness of the armed forces, he said, "That is precisely what the forces should do when tensions mount. We should be prepared to deal with any eventuality".
Gen Malik also felt that Pak Army should step in and take action to dismantle the terror network, saying, "Doesn't our (Indian) Army fight against the terrorists here?"
"I think if Pakistan acts and closes down the terrorists camps, that should be good enough. I think that is needed more at the moment, even more than Pak handing over the most wanted terrorists to India," he said. Source : PTI
