New Delhi: The BJP Tuesday appointed two committees to go into the reasons that led to the party's debacle in the assembly elections of Delhi and Rajasthan.
BJP president Rajnath Singh appointed senior leaders Yashwant Sinha and Thawar Chand Gehlot to analyse and probe the reasons behind the party's defeat at the hands of the Congress. The Vasundhara Raje government in the state had 120 MLAs in the 200-member assembly. But after the polls, the party was reduced to 78 while Congress got 96.
The BJP president has appointed senior party leaders Bal Apte and Ananth Kumar to analyse the "stunning" defeat of the party in Delhi at the hands of the Congress.
The party was very hopeful of forming a government in Delhi. Its leaders argued that there was high anti-incumbency against the decade-old Sheila Dikshit government. The saffron party got only 23 seats in the 70-member assembly.
Sheila Dikshit-led Congress got 43 seats.
Party sources said though no time limit has been set for both the committees to submit their reports, they have been asked to finish their work at the earliest.
