Mumbai: The Crime Branch is waiting for a response from the Pakistan Consulate General before they start looking for other legal options for Mohd Ajmal Amir, an accused in the 26/11 terror attacks.
On Tuesday, advocate KGN Lam had handed his vakalatnama to the Crime Branch seeking to appear for Ajmal. However, only after Ajmal consents and signs the vakalatnama will Lam be appointed as his advocate. "We will not consider Lams vakalatnama till the option of Pakistan Consulate General providing Ajmal with legal aid is exhausted," said Rakesh Maria, joint commissioner of police, crime.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Ajmal was remanded in police custody till January 6,2009,in the Skoda robbery case registered at the Marine Drive police station.
Owing to security reasons, Ajmal was not taken to court. Additional magistrate, NN Shrimangale, additional public prosecutor Eknath Dhamal, and a court clerk were taken to the lock up at the Crime Branch headquarters.
When asked whether he was being ill treated or had any complaints, Ajmal claimed that he wasnt. "Ajmal was very quiet during the proceedings.
