Mumbai: The Anti-terrorism Squad will stop investigating the November 26 attack at CST. Home minister Jayant Patil on Wednesday said he had asked the ATS to transfer the investigations to the Crime Branch, which would now investigate all the attacks as one case.
Replying to questions on the deteriorating law and order in the state, Patil told the legislative assembly that he had rectified a technical error by transferring the investigations.
Till now, the Crime Branch was looking into the attacks at Trident, Taj, and Nariman House.
Opposition members, however, said ATS should have handled everything because the force had been created specifically to deal with terror attacks.
BJP leader Gopinath Munde said the government made a mistake by handing over the case to the Crime Branch.
He talked of a split in the police department and good IPS officers being sidelined. Patil vouched for a comprehensive security plan for Maharashtra.
He said a team of experts would sketch out a plan. Patil, however, did not say anything on the oppositions demand for removing AN Roy.
Some members demanded that spiritual guru Narendra Maharaj be provided with security. Patil said, "Protection is provided based on the threat perception. We are reviewing it across the board. Once the committee headed by the chief secretary submits its report, we will decide what to do." Source : Central
