Mumbai: The November 26 terror attacks in Mumbai has cast a shadow on Christmas celebrations in the city.
Christians in Mumbai celebrated the festival in a sombre mood praying for the victims of the terror attacks.
"Every year, me and my family go to a church for the midnight mass followed by a small get together with dance and music," said Koreen Cardoz (48), a teacher by profession.
"However, this year we only offered our prayers at the church and distributed sweets to friends and neighbours. Even the celebration at the church was a low key affair," she said.
PC Paul, a retired government official, also celebrated Christmas in a similar manner by offering prayers at the church for those who lost their lives and were injured in the tragedy. While some schools in the city celebrated Christmas, some others refrained from celebrating this year. The RN Poddar School in suburban Santacruz telecast a documentary Spirit of Mumbai to all the students.
Christmas is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Jesus of Nazareth. Santa Claus, also referred to as Father Christmas, is a popular mythological figure often associated with bringing gifts on Christmas.
