Cong leaders want Rodrigues to go on leave
Thursday, December 25, 2008 20:40 [IST]
Chandigarh: Raking up the issue of discord between Chandigarh's Administrator S F Rodrigues and his Adviser Pradip Mehra over some mega projects, local Congress today said the former should "proceed on leave" as some of these projects got mired into "controversies". "The projects like multi-media-cum-film city and theme park have run into rough weather. Rodrigues own adviser Mehra had recently recommended an inquiry by an independent central agency into the film city project and questioned the formula used to fix the land's reserve price for the medicity project," Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee's general secretary Subhash Chawla told a news conference here.

He said it was a "serious matter" when the Administrator's own adviser demands an inquiry, "which clearly indicates that all is not well. Moreover, Rodrigues and Mehra have locked horns over various other issues in recent times because of which people of Chandigarh only have suffered".

Chawla, who addressed the media in the presence of Chandigarh Mayor Pradeep Chhabra and former Mayor Anu Chatrath, said till the time any inquiry was set up as recommended by the Adviser and its outcome known, Rodrigues "should proceed on leave."

The Congress leader also demanded abolishing of the UT Administrator s post and revival of the office of Chief Commissioner here as was the practice before the terrorism days in Punjab.

He regretted that no meeting of the Advisory Council, which consists of dozens of eminent citizens of the city, had been called by Rodrigues for nearly two years.
