Kopargaon: Several ministers in the newly-constituted Maharashtra cabinet are tarnishing Chief Minister Ashok Chavan's clean image, noted social worker and Padmabhushan recipient Anna Hazare has said.
Ministers like Surup Singh Naik and Nawab Malik with several offences against them, part of the new Maharashtra cabinet, are disturbing the "Mr Clean" image of Ashok Chavan, Hazare told PTI at his home in Ralegan Siddhi village yesterday.
Hazare asked Chavan to work hard after having assumed office and demanded loans for farmers at low interest rates and speedier implementation of the Ideal Village Scheme.
Corruption in the political class is increasing by the day and the government has no control over law and order in the state, Hazare, a noted-anti-corruption crusader, said.
Intelligence agencies and police in the state were "sleeping" Hazare said on the 26/11 terror attacks adding that there was an urgent need for restructuring of the police force by providing them with modern equipments.
Hazare, who was one of those in the forefront of the Right to Information (RTI) movement, said that the state must introduce a law making it mandatory for government officials to declare their properties.
So far, six cabinet ministers and 400 cabinet ministers had been exposed using RTI, Hazare said adding that awareness about the Act and its use was being effectively raised in 33 districts and 52 talukas in the state with the help of youth.
