Chandigarh: Piercing chill continued to sweep Amritsar where minimum temperature today plummetted to 1.6 degrees celsius, even as many parts in Punjab and Haryana remained engulfed under dense fog.
The night temperature at Amritsar has been steadily falling over the past one week.
Visibility was zero in the morning at Amritsar that remained under thick fog even in the afternoon adversely hitting normal life. Among other places in the region where visibility dropped to zero early in the morning were Adampur, Halwara and Bathinda in Punjab and Ambala, Sirsa and Karnal in Haryana.
Cold conditions also swept most places in Punjab, with Ludhiana and Patiala registering minimums at 6.5 C and 7 C, respectively, the Meteorological Department said here. Meanwhile, piercing cold also swept Ambala in Haryana where the minimum settled at 3.5 C, four degrees below normal. Narnaul was also under the influence of the chill registering a low of 4.1 C, down two degrees. Karnal had a cold night at 4.8 C, three below normal. Hisar recorded a low of 7 C
The minimum at Chandigarh settled at 7.2 C, a degree above normal. There was slight haze in the morning, but during the day the sun was shining brightly here. Source : PTI
