Jamshedpur: A Santhali novelist is in search of a sponsor to promote William Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream translated into Santhali.
The purpose of translating Shakespeare's work in the tribal language was to help the people of his community, who did not have knowledge of English to read and understand the classic work, novelist Vishwanath Tudu told PTI.
The Santhali version titled Fagun Pata was translated by Rourkela-based Tudu two months ago.
Claiming that the translated version was in demand in Orissa and West Bengal, he said he was looking for a sponsor to promote it across the country as well as abroad.
Asked what prompted him to translate Shakespeare's novel in the tribal language, Tudu, said officials of the National School of Drama had approached him requesting to translate it for staging a play.
Tudu has authored eight books in Santhali and is currently working on children's literature.
