ITBP chief visits India-China border outposts
Monday, December 29, 2008 16:00 [IST]

New Delhi: The director general of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is inspecting border outposts along the India-China border to apprise himself of difficulties faced by the troops.

ITBP chief Vikram Srivastava has been visiting several border outposts since Dec 25.

“Srivastava is inspecting the border outposts along the India-China border. He would be taking note of the condition of troops and difficulties at the border,” said an official.

The official dismissed speculation of any movement of troops at the India-China border.

"The director general is on a routine visit to border posts. So far, there has been no movement along the India-China border. And we have not received any directions from the government either," an ITBP official told IANS.

The ITBP, which has 49 battalions, is deployed on guard duties from Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Diphu La in Arunachal Pradesh, covering 3,488 km of the India-China border and manning outposts on altitudes ranging from 9,000 ft to 18,500 ft in the western, middle and eastern sectors of the India-China border.

While Srivastava inspected the India-China border, M.L. Kumawat, chief of the Border Security Force (BSF) that guards India-Pakistan border, was Saturday visiting frontline security positions along the Pakistan border in Punjab's Amritsar and Ferozepore districts.

BSF sources claim that there have been activities on the Pakistani side of the border, but the situation is not alarming.
