Chhattisgarh's newly elected assembly

Raipur: The maiden session of the third legislative assembly of Chhattisgarh will be held in January, assembly officials said Monday.

The two-day session of the 90-member assembly will be held Jan 5 and 9. Fifty newly elected legislators of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), 38 of the Congress and two of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will take oath during the session.

The house will also elect its new speaker. BJP legislator Dharamlal Kaushik is the main candidate for the post. He will replace previous speaker and BJP leader Premprakash Pandey, who lost the assembly elections.

The state went to polls Nov 14 and 20. The results were declared Dec 8.
