Former Bihar CM Ram Sunder Das joins JD(U)

Patna: Ahead of Lok Sabha polls, former Bihar hief minister and Dalit leader Ram Sunder Das today joined Bihar's ruling Janata Dal (United).

Welcoming Das into the party Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, in the presence of JD(U) president Sharad Yadav, said Das entry would strengthen the party and his experience would be used during the upcoming general elections.

Sharad Yadav said that Das entry would help in expanding the party s base.

Das, a former Bihar chief minister from April 1979 to February 1980,had contested the Lok Sabha elections in 1998 as a RJD-backed SJP candidate against LJP president Ram Vilas Paswan and had lost by over one lakh votes in Hajipur.

Das had won the Hajipur (reserved constituency) when Paswan shifted to Rosera (SC) seat in 1991.
