Japanese pamphlets lay claim to Dokdo

Seoul: South Korean foreign ministry has lodged a protest to the Japanese government which a leading Japanese daily said is distributing a massive number of pamphlets laying territorial claim to Dokdo, Korea's easternmost islets.

According to South Korean foreign ministry statement released here today and carried by the Yonhap news agency, Seoul has called upon Japan to cancel the contents relevant of this affairs and which has been published on the Japanese foreign ministry s website.

Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun, said today that Japan's foreign ministry disseminated through its overseas missions some 23-thousand copies of such pamphlets in English, Japanese and Korean. The paper said the ministry also distributed Arabic and Chinese versions early this month. The pamphlets carry Japan s claim that Dokdo is Japanese territory and that Korea has failed to present clear proof of its effective control of the islets.
