Kathmandu: Clashes broke out between activists of youth wings of Maoists and CPN-UML in the Nepalese capital today over the opening of a new casino.
While cadres of the Youth Force, affiliated to CPN-UML, were against the opening of a new casino in the city, saying that it was already crowded with them, the activists of Young Communist League of ruling Maoists were in support of the inauguration.
However, the casino was inaugurated in Hotel Malla complex in Lainchaur amid fighting between the two groups.
Among the 400 plus employees of the newly opened casino, Venus, majority are pro-Maoist employees.
A couple of months ago the police raided a number of casinos in Kathmandu in order to prevent entry of Nepalese people as it was illegal.
Although, the casinos in Kathmandu are aimed at luring tourists, including Indian, but due to the economic meltdown the number of tourists is not encouraging these days.
