New Delhi: National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah tonight said there were no suggestion from Congress party on projecting his son Omar as the chief ministerial candidate in Jammu and Kashmir.
"There were no suggestions from Congress about projecting Omar," the senior Abdullah told NDTV.
The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said he had made up his mind many, many months ago that it was not the time for him to take up the top job in the state.
"Time is ripe for the yound capable persons with bright ideas to take the lead ... They have the energy which I dont have," Farooq said.
He said a tie-up between NC and Congress "is the only choice which is workable".
Replying to a question on reports that PDP was trying to woo Congress with offer of chief ministership, Abdullah said he did not think Congress would once again go through the experience of differences with that party as happened in their previous alliance.
Asked about his expectations from the Centre on the Kashmir issue, he said he did not expect anything major to happen ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
However, if the present dispensation returned to power, he expected them first to talk to separatists and find a via media to end the "conflict".
"There are Nobel Prizes waiting for anybody who does that," Farooq said, adding "it will be the biggest achievement of any central government". (more) PTI SKU PAL 12292251 DELHI NNNN
