Mumbai: Union Minister and Congress leader Sushil Kumar Shinde today expressed hope that there would be greater coordination between security agencies and political class after the November 26 terror attacks here.
Admitting that the attacks had exposed the shortcomings of political class, intelligence, security and police, he said the new generation of experts should help in greater coordination between security agencies and politicians to tackle such challenges in the future. Speaking at the annual convocation of the University of Mumbai, Shinde said the Centre was now more aware of these shortcomings and was trying to rectify them.
Key global issues like global warming, climate change, economic crisis and tackling terrorism should be studied thoroughly by the youth so that they become expert in these subjects, the Minister said. He asked the students to make best possible use of their education in keeping up the values of the 150-year-old university. Chancellor of Universities and Governor S C Jamir conferred degrees to around 1.70 lakh students of the varsity who passed out in 2008 in various disciplines. He presented gold medals to 78 outstanding graduates and post-graduates.
