Kannur: The 69th session of Indian History Congress today passed a resolution recommending concerted efforts to survey and handover documents connected with the freedom movement to the national and state archives and other major institutions to help reconstruct the history books.
The IHC wanted all concerned to handover all the valuable data and records lying in various government departments to history research scholars so that the facts since independence could be brought before large number of people, a resolution adopted here said.
"The History Congress would like to draw attention of all concerned that the Indian History since independence suffers greatly due to the lack of public access to large number of people and the records lying in government files should be transfered to the national and state archives," it said.
"Such lists would be of immense assistance to research scholars in the field to reconstruct the history books," the resolution adopted at the concluding day today said.
The resolution said the IHC would like the government to initiate firm steps to transfer all relevant documents and papers in conformity with the rules adopted in many other nations and in the spirit of Right To Information (RTI) Act.
Alleging that large number of copies of series of History books published by the UNESCO (which included History of Humanity, History of Africa and History of Central Asia) were being deliberately destroyed by the officials of the UN body, IHC expressed satisfaction that the Director General of the UNESCO had assured that such lapses would not recur.
