Mumbai: This year, rave party organisers are not using social networking sites to rope in patrons. With security agencies like the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) keeping a close tab on the activities of drug peddlers and people who have earlier been booked for holding such parties, organisers are searching for new ways to reach out to their patrons.
The police too have devised a new way to nail them by keeping a tab on the SMS-es of known drug peddlers. Request letters have been sent to mobile service providers regarding this.
"After the recent rave bust at a Juhu pub, hosts are wary of publicising their parties on websites. We have not found any rave invites on popular networking sites," a senior ANC official said.
ANC officials are scrutinising "porous" areas from where drugs are smuggled into Mumbai; their round-the-clock vigil bore fruit with the most cases being registered in 2008. Nearly 692 cases were registered by the ANC, including consumption by druggies and peddlers arrested for allegedly possessing drugs.
Police officials say regular awareness programmes conducted by the ANC at colleges have also yielded results. "We hold regular awareness and counselling sessions," an ANC official added.
