Nashik enjoys the chill in the air
Wednesday, December 31, 2008 06:55 [IST]
Nashik: Although a little late, the chilling days which are characteristic of a Nashik winter, have arrived. With minimum six degrees Celsius on Monday, Nashikites are experiencing the cold that they are so used to. The temperature, however, rose to 6.8 degrees Celsius minimum on Tuesday.

With the fall in humidity, the weather has become very dry as well. People rush back home for warm comfort as the sun sets in and the chill engulfs the air. Woollens are out of the cupboard. Fortunately, for children, winter vacations are on and they are saved of going to school in the biting cold morning.

But in spite of the mercury dropping, the maximum temperature hovers around 30 degrees Celsius. The high variation in the maximum and minimum temperatures is forcing people to adjust to the moods of the season.

Farmers too were awaiting the winter as the fall in temperature is good for crops like jowar, gram and some vegetables. The cold is however worrisome for those who have sown the winter onions late and the grape farmers who have pruned the vineyards late. On the whole, except for grape growers, farmers have expressed happiness over the season, saying that had the winter been delayed further, there could have been a problem.

As is seen in Nashik every winter, people are enjoying the season with dry fruit laddus, gjjar ka halwa and hot milk. Green vegetables, though a little costly, are out in the market in plenty.
