'No personal relationship for political gains'
Wednesday, December 31, 2008 09:12 [IST]

New Delhi: Omar Abdullah, who is all set to become the next Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, today said though he shares a close relationship with AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, he did not use it for clinching a deal with the Congress.

"He (Rahul) is a friend... But it is not my habit to use personal relationship for political gains," Abdullah told reporters here after the decision that he would head the new coalition government in the border state.

"We wished each other Merry Christmas. He congratulated me on the results. We did talk in between," Abdullah said.

To a question whether Gandhi played a role in the formation of the alliance, he said, "if he did, I am very grateful to him but I did not ask him consciously for it," he said.

The National Conference leader also recalled his childhood days with Gandhi.
