Hassan: Former Rajya Sabha member and Hassan District JDS President H K Javare Gowda has condemned the attack on former MP G Made Gowda in Mandya.

Describing Made Gowda as a senior politician, the JDS leader in a statement demanded that those who had manhandled Gowda after the declaration of the bypolls results yesterday be arrested immediately and action taken as per the provisons of IPC.

A 200-member group had manhandled Gowda alleging that the BJP candidate was defeated in Maddur because he had refused to campaign for him.

Meanwhile, several BJP activists, led by District President Navile Annappa, took out a victory rally in Hassan hailing the party's showing in the bypolls.

Annappa said the people had given their mandate for the schemes initiated by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.

By winning five of the eight Assembly constituencies, the people had given the BJP a New year bonanza, he said.
