Jaipur: The situation in Chittorgarh district, where 15 people were injured in a clash between nomads and Hindu activists over a cow slaughtering incident, was peaceful today even as a bandh call given by saffron outfits failed to evoke any response.
"No untoward incident has been reported from anywhere in the Chittorgarh district so far and the bandh is by and large peaceful," Home Secretary S N Thanvi told PTI.
The bandh call was given by some Hindu outfits, following a clash between nomads and residents of Satpura village in the district over slaughtering of a cow, SP Chittorgarh Manish Goyal said.
At least 15 people, including policemen, were injured in the clash, as a mob set ablaze a police bus and a jeep, prompting the police to hurl teargas shells and open fire in the air to disperse the crowd, police said.
Tension erupted in Satpura village yesterday afternoon when villagers came to know about the cow slaughter by Mev community nomads, they said.
Extra force, including a company of RAC, was deployed after the clash to maintain law and order, they said. Source : PTI
