Patna: Security has been beefed up in the capital city of Bihar with over 7000 police personnel, including women constables, deployed at various places to maintain peace on New Year's Day.

Police personnel are put on duty from tonight till tomorrow night under the supervision of 40 magistrates to tackle trouble makers and revelers, Patna District Magistrate Jitendra Kumar Sinha said here.

Policemen would stand guard at major hotels, Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park, Kumhrar Park, Patna Museum, Harding Park and other picnic spots. They would also patrol the river front from Danapur to Patna Saheb on speedboats, he said.

Policemen in civil clothes will also be posted to check eve teasing, he said, adding guests visiting hotels and clubs would be frisked before being allowed entry.

Over 400 traffic policemen would also be pressed into service to ensure smooth movement of vehicles, he said.

The Patna district civil surgeon has been asked to constitute medical teams with ambulances for emergency, Sinha said.
