Warm welcome for Omar Abdullah in Srinagar
Wednesday, December 31, 2008 14:58 [IST]

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir chief minister-designate Omar Abdullah was received warmly by a huge crowd of enthusiastic supporters at the Srinagar airport Wednesday after his arrival from New Delhi.

Waving National Conference (NC) flags - a plough in white against a red background - his supporters accompanied Abdullah in a procession to the party headquarters here.

“This is a victory march,” shouted Mushtaq Rather, 25, an NC supporter from Srinagar.

Abdullah is set to lead the new government of the state after the Congress Tuesday agreed to extend its legislative support to the National Conference - the single largest party in the assembly.
