Crime in Vijayawad was under check in 2008

Vijayawada: During 2008 law and order maintained well and the crime was under check when compared to the previous years in the city, according to K V Rajendranath Reddy, City Police Commissioner.

Speakjing to reporters here today Reddy said that 1,030 cases were reported during 2006, 1,630 in 2007 as against 1,369 property offences in 2008. He said that traffic regulation and enforcement improved a lot with strict implementation of rules and regulations.

Of the 31 murders reported in 2008, 29 cases were solved and the accused were arreseted, he said. A total of 5,187 cases were registered in 2006 while it was 5,001 cases in 2007 and it was 4,833 cases in 2008, he added.

Recovery percentage of property lost was 37.42 per cent in 2006, while it was 48.10 per cent in 2007 and it was 52.11 per cent in 2008, he added.

Referrring to new year celebrations, he appealed to people to usher in 2009 in a peaceful way. No violation of rules in the name of new year celebrations would be tolerated, he said.

"Teasing of women would not be tolerated,", the City Police Commissioner said.
