Wednesday, December 31, 2008 17:30 [IST]

Shimla: Notwithstanding the absence of snowfall, the Queen of the Hills and Manali are full of tourists who have come to celebrate the New Year.

Nearly all hotels in both the popular hill stations are full of revelers with no room to spare, sources in the hospitality sector said.

"Over 300 hotels in Shimla are packed to capacity," said Shimla Hoteliers and Restaurants Association president Harnam Kukreja told PTI.

He said tourists, mainly from north India, have thronged the hill station in large numbers to celebrate the New Year.

Kukreja said the absence of snowfall has not affected the rush of tourists.

Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation s hotels at Shimla, Kufri, Fagu, Narkanda, Barog, Kiarighat and Chail have got advance bookings for the New Year.

A report from Manali said that the popular hill station has been swarmed by tourists.

Tourism Inspector of Manali Pratap Verma told PTI that nearly 350 hotels in the Manali town are full to their capacity.

Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra is among the tourist who have thronged Manali for the New Year bash. There was talk of visit of master blaster Sachin Tendulkar too but he did not make it.
