Wednesday, December 31, 2008 19:17 [IST]

New Delhi: A trader was shot dead in the capital by two unidentified assailants as he tried to resist their robbery bid, the police said Wednesday.

Deepak Kumar, 45,was at his grocery shop in the Hanuman Market of Uttam Nagar in west Delhi when the assailants tried to rob him late Tuesday, a police officer said. As Kumar tried to resist the robbery bid, the assailants fired a shot and fled, the officer said, adding that he was rushed to the hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

The assailants were wearing monkey-caps to hide their identity. Robbery seems to be the motive behind the incident as they escaped with Rs.20,000, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Sharad Aggarwal said. The police registered a case and have launched search for the assailants.
